Rhinoplasty

Evansville, Henderson, Indiana

Who should have rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, can contour the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. The best candidates for rhinoplasty in Henderson are people who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If the procedure is to be performed on a child for reconstructive purposes or to correct birth defects or breathing problems, it is usually best to wait until the child has completed his or her growth — usually at about 14 or 15 years old. Also, it is important that the child want the procedure, not just the parents, as it will enhance his or her cooperation with the procedure and healing process.

What is involved in the Rhinoplasty procedure?

During rhinoplasty surgery in Henderson the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. Afterward, the skin is redraped over the new framework. When the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.

What is the normal healing time after this procedure?

You will have some swelling and bruising and possibly a little bleeding for the first few days, but you can apply cold compresses to relieve that discomfort. The bruising will disappear within two weeks or so. Nasal packing will be removed after a few days, and you’ll feel much more comfortable. By the end of one or two weeks, all dressings, splints, and stitches should be removed. You should be able to return to work or school within a week or so. However, if your work is more strenuous, you may need additional recovery time. It will be several weeks, however, before you’re entirely up to speed.

What results can I expect?

Rhinoplasty in Evansville may enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your ideal or cause other people to treat you differently. Healing is a slow and gradual process, and some subtle swelling may be present for months. The final results of rhinoplasty may not be apparent for a year or more.

I wish I had found them sooner.  Dr. Zieg totally reconstructed a botched job I received from another doctor. I couldn't be more pleased with the job Dr. Zieg did for me. Their in-office procedures are top-notch also. By far the best doctor and staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
