MicroLaserPeel is a light laser skin resurfacing treatment that can be used to treat mild to moderate signs of sun damage and aging as well as restore a healthy glow to “tired” skin. It works by removing a precise and thin layer of damaged skin to literally erase darkened areas and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
As the skin heals and new, healthy cells grow in the treatment area, skin appears healthier and more even in tone, resulting in a vibrant, youthful look.
On its own, MicroLaserPeel is effective in treating mild wrinkles, scars, keratosis, dark pigmentation, sun damage, freckles, and other pigment irregularities. However, Dr. Zieg can also use MicroLaserPeel in tandem with other treatments, like BBL Moxi, as part of a personalized skincare treatment plan.
MicroLaserPeel is most often used on the face and neck, but can also be used on the hands and chest depending on your skincare needs.
To prepare for a MicroLaserPeel treatment, Dr. Zieg will first assess the area to be treated and configure the device settings accordingly. Your skin will be cleansed, and your eyes will be protected with safety shields.
Depending on the depth chosen for skin resurfacing, Dr. Zieg may also apply a topical numbing cream to ensure the procedure is comfortable. Many patients can undergo MicroLaserPeel without this anesthetic, as the procedure is generally not painful.
The treatment itself consists of Dr. Zieg maneuvering the device throughout the target area as the computer-guided laser works to remove precise layers of skin. MicroLaserPeel treatments can vary in length, but usually take between 15 and 30 minutes.
Because this procedure removes layers of dead and damaged skin, it takes time for new skin to grow in its place. This process typically takes three to four days, at which time patients usually feel well enough to return to work.
Immediately after the procedure, the treatment area will feel like a sunburn, with redness and sensitivity receding over the following day or two. Your skin will also peel and flake throughout the first few days. During recovery, your skin will be extra sensitive to UV light, so Dr. Zieg will instruct you on what sunscreen to wear and whether to avoid sunlight all together.
