- Cerifications
- Select a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This membership means that the doctor has pursued specialized training in the field and has passed rigorous testing to earn certification.
- Research
- Talk to family members and friends who have had cosmetic surgery procedures. Ask what they liked about their surgeons and if they were satisfied with the treatment they received and the outcome of their procedures.
- Experience
- Find out about the surgeon's experience. How long has he or she been practicing? How frequently does he or she do the procedures you are considering, and is he or she using the most current equipment and procedures?
- Investigate
- Find out about the hospital or surgery center where your procedure would be performed. Is it modern and up-to-date with the staff and equipment that will ensure a comfortable and satisfactory outcome for your procedure?
- Communicate
- Meet with your chosen surgeon and discuss the procedures you are considering. Ask what is involved in the procedure, what risks are involved, how long it will take to heal, and what outcomes you can expect. You should feel comfortable speaking to the surgeon and feel that the answers you receive are thoughtful and thorough.
